We performed, taught, moved and shared space with students at Grace Church School. We shared a short excerpt of BEAR with the students from Dance I and talked at length with them about their impressions, questions and curiosities around the work. We were touched by some of the insights they offered and how some of their questions helped us reframe the work in our minds. It certainly had an impact. We then had the pleasure of leading the students in movement, through some of the choreographic structures and scores that we used to build the work. It is always fascinating to see others try on that which came from you. They pushed, pulled, rolled, fell and sang right along with. 

We also worked with the Movement and Media classes, further excerpting BEAR into small sections for them to film. The students built shot lists after watching the work and came into the studio with a variety of ways they wanted to capture the material. They also gave us in-the-moment scores to try for them live, on camera. It was a wonderful challenge – taking what they were dreaming up and seeing what we could make of it with them and for them. We’re looking forward to seeing the final iterations of their film. THey will undoubtedly help us to continue to see this work anew, through fresh eyes.
